Smart Scroll is Hot!

Thursday, June 19th, 2008

When I purchased my iPhone I was instantly hooked to the inertia scrolling that it had. It’s “running OS X” so I hoped that this was simply part of the OS somewhere that I could turn on. Not so.

As a fallback, I was sure that since I had thought of it that someone on the internet had developed it. Much searching returned nothing. I felt the mark of Fail.

Then recently I came across Smart Scroll, which is a little app that adds this feature. I can’t seem to get it working in FF3, but it seems to work in everything else! I guess it matters what the render engine it? Who knows, but overall it’s a neat application. I like it. It’s a $20 or so registration, but seems worth it.

Help! My NetFlix Queue is Empty!

Wednesday, June 18th, 2008

I was trying to figure out why I hadn’t gotten more films on Netflix. It ends up that the impossible has happened- I have ran out of movies in the queue.

Please help. My name on Netflix is Tibbon. You can friend me, and then suggest films. Or if you don’t have a Netflix acct, just leave a film name in the comments. I’m up for any film that you consider to be “awesome”. I have a great fear that I’ve seen many of the “awesome” films out there. Prove to me that this isn’t true.

Machinedrum Magic

Tuesday, June 17th, 2008

Here’s a little snippet I made this morning with my Machinedrum. No effects, no editing, no processing. I updated to firmware 1.50f and it works much better now. I took it to Taylor’s studio to test it out. Sounds pretty good imho actually. Take a listen:

Verizon DSL vs Comcast Cable, Comcast wins

Tuesday, June 17th, 2008

I noticed this evening that I was accidentally connected to my neighbor’s wifi network instead of mine for whatever reason. They use Verizon and have a 864kbps/160kbs DSL connection. I have a Comcast Cable Modem. I honestly can’t remember if I have the 8Mbps/768Kbps or the 6Mbps/384Kbps connection. I think I have the former, but it doesn’t show on my bill. I end up paying about $55/month for their “package” that has minimal cable, which is actually cheaper somehow (I guess since they can count me as someone that they advertise to for their subscriber base).

Anyway, I noticed how incredibly much the Verizon connection sucks. Like seriously sucks. I never remember ISDN lines even being like this. I was wondering how much of this was in my head, so I did a speed test using Speedtest.net.

Verizon- 582kbps/117kbps

Comcast- 11,515kbps/2,064kbps

I’m pretty damn sure that the DSL costs nearly exactly the same, maybe within 5-10USD difference. Yet there is nearly a 20x performance difference. Let me say that again, damn near the same cost for nearly 20x the performance. That is simply insane. Basically, Comcast has problems for sure but until you go with FiOS (almost unavailable nationwide) Verizon simply sucks.
