Espresso Royale needs to turn it down!

Wow, a sure sign of ‘getting old’. I think that Espresso Royale (specifically the one on Marlboro Street near NorthEastern) needs to turn down their freaking music.
First of all, the coffee shop is a great place to go. It has decent drinks, free wifi, and plenty of seating. However the guys and gals that work there find that they must pump their indie music as loud as possible. Even if you have an iPod in, you can barely hear yourself think unless you’re blasting equally obnoxious music just as loud into your ears.
Secondly, I don’t think it’s all the fault of the music. The room has horrid (as in none) acoustical design. It is probably impossible to make music sound good in here as is, and when combined with people talking loudly to speak over it then the problem just compounds. Perhaps some acoustical consultant will give them some free tips as to spare us all.
A great sounding room that I was in recently however is The Last Hurrah attached to the Omni Parker House. It’s a great quiet bar. It’s not so quiet that you feel that everyone is listening on your conversations, but the bar isn’t blasting music loudly and the bar doesn’t sound like the back-bar of a starbucks with things grinding all the time, etc. Great place.
