Bush wants to brand Iranian army as terrorists?

Thursday, August 30th, 2007

Apparently (according to MSNBC) the Bush administration wants to call an Iranian Military branch a ‘terrorist’ organization.

Using logic (which the Bush administration doesn’t use mind you), this is scary.

If we are at war on terror
and, the war on terror is against all people we call terrorists
and, if we have labeled the Iranian army as terrorists,
and if being at war with an army means we are against war with a country,
Then… we are at war with Iran.

So calling the Iranian army terrorists is a scary route.

And for some reason I was under the impression that ‘terrorists’ even under the GOP definition, were people that were unaffiliated with a recognized government and military.

This sets a horrid precident as well. We can apparently have ‘military action’ against a ‘terrorist group’ without consent of congress, and now any country’s army can be called a terrorist group.

Can someone explain to me how the CIA are not terrorists too?

Today I thought that there might be 09-f9-11-02-9d-74-e3-5b-d8-41-56-c5-63-56-88-c0 grains of sand in the bricks in my building, if expressed in HEX.

Cost of War

Thursday, August 30th, 2007

Look to your right. Ok, not that far to the right. There should be a little bar on the side of this page that has the cost of the war in Iraq currently. Like the Gmail inbox size counter, it keeps going up. However, the size of your inbox approaching 3gb isn’t a bad thing. The cost of the war in Iraq costing nearly 500 billion dollars is a bad thing.

Go here to put it in scope. You can choose your community and see how much of the war has been funded by your town. The city of Boston alone is approaching a billion dollars (which doesn’t include neighboring cities or the “greater boston area”).

You can also compare to see what we could have done with that money instead. We could have built over 4 million new public housing units. There’s less than a million homeless in the US. At the same time, we could have had nearly zero.

We could have hired over 7 million public school teachers. We only have 6.2 million teachers in the US! And yes, we do need more.

We could have paid for health insurance for nearly 300 million children. Newsflash. We barely have 300 million people in the US! In short, we could have made sure everyone was insured.

We could have paid for 21 million full scholarships for students at public 4 year universities. While I didn’t go to a public university, I could sure have used some more government assistance so that maybe I wouldn’t have over $120,000 in student loans (which cause me to pay more in student loans that most people in the US pay for their mortgage).

So never going to Texas

Thursday, August 30th, 2007

http://www.cnn.com/2007/US/08/30/spider.web.ap/index.html

Basically the gist of the story is that a bunch of the minions of evil (spiders) in Texas got together and built a 200 meter long spider web. Nasty. I hate spiders. I know that bug/spider lovers think this is amazing, and I normally respect animal life and all, but someone should go in there with a flame thrower or Molotov cocktail and kill the little buggers. Yes, I hate spiders that much. Yes, they eat bugs. But so do praying mantises and bats. I can deal with bats. I can’t deal with spiders. They should all die.

I think i’m going to stay in Boston, where I rarely see a spider larger than a dime and certainly no 200 meter long spider webs. I have been trying to train Jade to kill spiders. So far she only recognizes that they are something that I don’t like, and at best tries to play with them.
